What to expect in your Intake Interview

Duration: 20-30 minutes
Format: Google Meet call

First, relax.

There are no trick questions. (Well… not unless you count “what do you actually do?”)

We’ll review your case. I’ll go through the information you submitted in the form before our call and come prepared.

We’ll interrogate your blocks. I’ll ask sharp but simple questions designed to uncover what’s really blocking your clarity, confidence, or conversions and identify your gaps and opportunities.

We’ll discuss next steps. If we’re a fit, I’ll recommend the right service to get you from vague to vivacious. If not, I’ll do my best to give you a referral, recommendation, or resource.

  • Unfortunately, you’re not alone, and it’s part of the reason we still offer free Intake Interviews– so we can meet face to face and talk before committing. Plenty of people walk away from “strategy” with a 60-page PDF collecting dust. The Dept does it differently: insight first, jargon last. Every deliverable is designed to be used, not admired. If you want a shiny binder for your shelf, we’re not it. If you want strategy you can actually apply tomorrow, welcome aboard.

  • You clearly have great taste and if you can’t afford it right now, you will one day. In the meantime, please explore our free and affordable resources, or consider joining the waitlist for The Founding Protocol, our 4 week small-group program.

  • The Dept works globally– Zoom doesn’t care about time zones, and neither do we (within reason). If we believe that we cannot complete your project to our standard due to a lack of cultural nuance, we will tell you upfront.

  • We have worked with a wide range of product and service based businesses, including FMCG, health and wellness, beauty, creative service providers, SaaS, fintech, insurance, and dairy farmers, to name a few. Brand strategy is like baking a cake– the ingredients may change slightly, but the principles are the same. In short: If you’re selling to humans, we can help.

  • Our usual payment terms are 100% up front for projects under $5000, and 50/50 for $5000 and up. Flexible payment plans may be offered on request, depending on your circumstances.

  • We’re here to take things off your plate, however for the best outcomes, you will need to provide all requested information, documents, and most likely attend a strategy workshop. We’ve become very good at making this process as painless as possible for you. (Thank you, Psychology degree.)

  • Maybe. If your story fits the mission and you’re okay with unfiltered brand talk, submit your EOI here. Worst case, we say no. Best case, you’re immortalised in our archives.
